February 12, 2019  Previous to yesterday snow plowing was nearly useless as the plow blade could not get under and would only slide/glide on top of the ice pack, without removing the ice, or removing very little of it.
Last night the ice had thawed enough to loosen from the roads surface and break up enough that we were able to remove nearly all of it, by snow plow blade in the evening. Now we begin looking to see what Friday is going to bring us.

February 9, 2019 Winter Havoc This has been a winter of more ice, sleet, and snow than the last 3 winters combined and it is not done. The suppliers of bulk rock salt are totally out of stock in the KC area after dilluting what they had with sand for days. They had to close down Thursday with no new shipments expected from the mines before Monday the 11th. The large municipalities who buy direct and store their own treatment supplies receive preference when they run out however, those of us who are smaller and have no stored treatment material, or run out, are doing without. With some luck our plow contractor managed to find and apply a small amount of 50/50 mix to our critical intersections and inclines before that ran completely out. Since salt is so ineffective at the low temperatures we have been having and we have a limited amount on our roads we recommend not driving unless you have driving experience on hard pack. If you must get out please slow down and drive with care until we get thru this icy weather with no salt.

December 7, 2018 Water Mains All water main breaks and leaks have now been repaired to date and all 4 and 2 inch mains not previously replaced with 6 and 8 inch mains by Oakwood in the 70's will be replaced in 2019.

August 2, 2018 Water Mains (breaks, joint leakage, potholes)
The excessive high temperatures this summer have caused a large increase in pipe failures for water department repair crews. Large breaks have been assigned a high priority and slow leaks have been assigned a low priority, even where the road damage has been large. With the slight easing of temperatures they are starting to repair some of the slow leaks. Two major breaks were fixed quickly on Poplar Drive and Woodland Court and the slow leak on Barnes will be fixed shortly. Two slow leaks on South Woodland are on their list as well. We recently patched a pothole on North Woodland Drive during the relief from high temperatures which slowed repairs.

March 9, 2018 NOTICE (Water Pressure)
Many in the Oakwood area have noticed a reduction in KCMO water pressure this past week. It has been discovered that after working on N Oak a repair crew inadvertaintly left a partial distribution valve closed after otherwise compleating their repair work. That valve has now been re-opened and normal water flow restored to our area.

AUG 8, 2017
Due to the Aug 2nd micro trenching installation trial being stopped by circumstances beyond our control, we were informed tonight that a previous softscape type installation will have to be utilized tomorrow, in order to complete the trial path on the far north of the loop and in order to provide the promised service capability to all scheduled in the trial run on the south side of Poplar Drive.
A fiber softscape installation crew will start and may finish tomorrow Aug 9 in this area.

AUG 2017 NOTICE:
A Google micro-trenching installation crew is now scheduled on site Aug 1st.

JULY 2017 NOTICE: The Google Fiber "trial" project team has chosen the following area for the mini micro-trenching trial and installation is tentatively planned for the beginning of August. It will circle the area between the east side of N Oak on the west, the south and west side of Poplar Drive on the north and east, and the north side of N Woodland Drive on the south. Google Fiber has determined this to be the best location for the trial budget, which is not intended to cross any of these streets @ this time.

APRIL 2017 NOTICE: After an extended period of deep contemplation and considerable fore-sight, we have accepted an opportunity to have Google Fiber do a small trial run of a newer faster micro-trenching deployment technique in the Village of Oakwood. Although the trial will be small and limited in scope, we consider this to be an opportunity to get the process started and to eventually have Fiber Optics available in our entire Village sooner than we would otherwise have it available to us without this trial. Fiber Optics availability will not hurt our property values either.

MARCH 2017 NOTICE:  All previous attempts to get Fiber Optic cable in our Village have failed. However, we have recently been presented a first of it's kind (in the greater Kansas City area) opportunity to participate in a new "trial installation technique" that is planned to install faster, be more economical, and promote higher customer satisfaction, than any other. All attempts by your board to get our entire Village included in the trial have been denied (do to it being a limited trial on a limited budget). All attempts to obtain any guaranteed time line for expansion beyond the trial area have been denied (do to this being a trial only) with the bottom line being the following: We either accept the mini trial that is offered now, or turn the offer down and just hope for the best in the future. If we turn this offer down, they will absolutely do the trial elsewhere. If the trial is a success, wherever it is done will be the area more apt to be expanded sooner than otherwise. Since the installation of fiber optic cable runs are so long between houses in our Village of Oakwood, we believe this may be our only opportunity for a long time, to start the process of eventually getting fiber available to our entire village, sooner than would otherwise be possible.
